Spicemas Launch 2025

Grenada’s biggest festival has launched with much fanfare, giving carnival lovers a taste of what’s to come.

The event kicked off with a parade of the traditional mas bands alone Melville street and ended on the Kirani James Stadium car park. The bands include many Shortknee bands, Vieux Corps, Wild Indians and the world famous Jab Jab.

After the opening ceremony and usual formalities the stage side events began with a steelpan medley by the reigning Panorama Champions, Nexa New Dimensions.

The Traditional Mas bands each came front stage perform for the large crowd. The Vieux Corps and Jab Jab were among my favourite.

The 2025 Carnival Queen contestants also graced the stage and each represented they parishes well. I must say hats off to the Carnival Queen Committee.

A few Fancy Mas bands and one Monday Night Mas band had an opportunity to show of this years costumes before the Calypso and Soca artistes “tun up place”.

The event went off without much incident and followed the usual formula that has been established over the years. This is fine for first timers but for a carnival baby like me who has been to these launches countless times I do wish the was something new to peak my interest more. Regardless I’m always excited for a new carnival season and right now D ting start.
